Child, Adult and Families Psychotherapist (MBACP, BPC)

Qualified TherapistIn Person & OnlineHaggerstonHighbury Fields

I am a registered child and adult psychotherapist. I began my career 10+ years ago in an intensive psychiatric care unit, where I learnt about the long-term, devastating impact of developmental trauma. This experience inspired me to train to provide therapy for both children and adults, because sometimes the child in each of us needs to be heard before adult therapy can succeed.

About Shamim

Through my experience in the NHS and education systems, I have successfully treated a range of mental health conditions. I draw on this experience to help you find the words; rapport with your therapist is a crucial element of success, and it underpins the therapy I provide.

I offer psychotherapy and counselling, which are effective for a broad range of issues. My foundation is psychoanalytic theory, and I work psychodynamically, incorporating CBT, DBT, somatic therapy, or a trauma-informed approach as needed. The appropriate intervention is determined during the assessment period.

I specialise in working with adults experiencing burnout, anxiety, depression, loss, and repeated unhelpful relationship patterns you want to change.

I have a proven track record of helping children and adults with an ADHD diagnosis reduce the impact of symptoms on their day-to-day functioning. I also work with adolescents, supporting children through life's difficult transitions, anxiety, neurodivergence, friendship difficulties and depression, and collaborating with parents where necessary. For some parents, parent psychotherapy might be useful to explore attachment.

I offer brief, evidence-based psychological interventions because some psychological problems are short-lived, and I also offer long-term psychodynamic interventions for chronic conditions, which respond better to an established, long-term therapeutic relationship.

The goal of therapy is to help you understand all your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and, in the process, develop skills to improve your life and relationships in a more meaningful way.

My approach is relational across all therapies I offer and is tailored to each individual, recognising each person's uniqueness. I offer both face-to-face and online sessions. People come to therapy for many reasons.

Whatever your reasons, I will support you in identifying and overcoming any unhelpful patterns that may be preventing you from achieving your full potential and improving your relationships.

You do not need to have everything figured out before you start therapy. Contact me for a free 15-minute call to discuss your situation.
