Richard Langlois
Integrative Counsellor & Psychotherapist (BACP)
About Richard
I’m Richard Langlois, a BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I am available for short and long-term sessions at HQ Therapy Rooms in Haggerston, Hackney and online.
I offer a warm, non-judgemental space to make sense of what's going on for you — whether that's anxiety, low mood, burnout, identity questions, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, or the specific pressure of trying to build a life and career somewhere demanding and high-stakes. I work integratively, drawing on whatever combination of approaches actually fits what you bring into the room, rather than working to a fixed formula.
Before training as a counsellor and psychotherapist, I spent fifteen years in TV production, post-production and development, so I understand the media world's pressures firsthand. Alongside my private practice, I work with vulnerable adults facing complex mental health difficulties in the community — which means I'm equally at home helping someone through an acute crisis as I am doing the slower work of understanding longer-standing patterns.
For me, therapy works best as a genuine collaboration. I won't tell you what to do, but I will help you get clearer on what you actually want or need, and support you as you take the first steps toward it. I hold to Carl Rogers' idea that real change starts once we're able to accept ourselves as we are — and I work with people towards exactly that: a deeply felt sense of acceptance for all the different parts of who they are.
Qualifications and experience
Several years ago I switched from a career in the media to retraining as a therapist. I now support others in that industry through my work as a counsellor at Solas Mind. I have also worked at various organisations including Mind, Samaritans, Maytree Suicidal Respite Centre and Headstrong Counselling.
I am a registered and qualified member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (Registration number 400302).
I completed my PGDip (Dist) in Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of East London. Additionally, I gained my foundational training at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust who specialise in Mental Health care, education and research.
