About Josephine

My name is Dr Josephine Swede, I am a Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). I have worked across various mental health settings over the past 10 years, including inpatient settings, primary and secondary care services in the NHS, and within the private and voluntary sectors. I have worked with adults, adolescents, children and families from diverse backgrounds.

As an integrative psychologist, I am trained in several different therapeutic approaches, which I adapt and combine to meet the unique needs and goals of the individuals I work with. I hold a humanistic stance which emphasises the individual’s inherent capacity for positive growth and change.

I predominantly draw from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), as well as elements of Dialectic Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness-based approaches, amongst others, in my work with clients.

I often work with individuals struggling with anxiety, social anxiety, stress & burnout, low mood and depression, trauma-related issues, low self-esteem and struggles with self-confidence amongst others, as well as more general difficulties related to relationships, stressful life events and life transitions.

I am also trained in Autism assessment and offer specialised support to neurodivergent individuals who may have recently been diagnosed or who are exploring this identity for themselves.

Whatever difficulties you may face, I strive to offer a safe, supportive and non-judgmental space where we can work together towards your goals, always working collaboratively and at your own pace. I can offer more short-term solution-focused work if desired, or you may prefer a more long-term, exploratory approach.

I aim to support my clients by developing a greater understanding of their difficulties as well as a strong focus on practical skills and tools to help facilitate the change that they wish to see in their lives.

I offer a free initial phone call to answer any questions you might have and ensure I am the right fit for you. I offer face-to-face sessions in Haggerston on Wednesdays and online sessions throughout the week.

My fees are £120 for online sessions and £140 for in-person sessions, with some concessionary options available. I am also able to provide therapy through the following insurers: AXA, AVIVA, BUPA, Cigna, Vitality, and WPA.
