Dr. Marianne Alnaes
Psychodynamic Psychotherapist BPC (British Psychoanalytical Council)
I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist trained at The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust and work with adults bringing a variety of issues.
About Marianne
Sometimes people have just a vague idea of something not feeling ‘quite right’ whereas others come to therapy wanting to talk about more specific issues. Whatever it might be that brings you to therapy, I aim to offer a calm, open, confidential and empathic space where we can think together so that with time things might become more manageable and eventually change.
I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist, which means that the work focuses on many of the unconscious processes that operate both within ourselves and between us. I believe that when we become more aware of our unconscious motivations, thoughts and drives, this allows us to become more aware about who we truly are- and not just who we wish we were or have been told we might be. The work also seeks to understand more about how early experiences have come to shape you and who you are today.
The process of understanding more about how we have come to see ourselves is often gradual and does not rely on ‘quick fixes’. I believe it is for this reason that change and development can have long-lasting effects even after the therapeutic work has ended.
