Xinxin Zhang Humanistic Integrative Psychotherapist London E8Xinxin Zhang:

Trainee Humanistic Integrative Psychotherapist (BACP Student Member)

Hi there, and welcome to HQ Therapy Counseling! My name is Xinxin Zhang.

When it comes to challenges and concerns, it is sometimes a signal that our body or brains want to tell us something, but sometimes it is hard to see in the throes of these periods.

Hopefully, we can create a space together where we can explore present emotions, thoughts, and experiences with feeling respected, seen and heard.

My goal is to make the therapy a journey where we can both build a unique relationship together.

It’s important to acknowledge that hesitation, defensiveness, fear, and anxiety may arise during therapy. This is completely normal. In these moments, we will pause to patiently explore what these emotions or behaviours are trying to tell us.

By understanding the stories, beliefs, and social and cultural factors behind them, we can gain a deeper understanding of past experiences.

Together, we can review the sessions regularly to see how the therapy is progressing. Ideally, the therapy will be shaped and trimmed by us to make the best fit for you.

My Approach:
I take a Humanistic Integrative approach to therapy, meaning I draw from several therapeutic techniques to meet your unique needs. Some of the key approaches I use include:

  • Person-Centered Therapy: This approach creates a compassionate space where you feel genuinely accepted. I aim to offer empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard, helping you connect with your inner strength and wisdom.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): In CBT, we’ll look at how your thoughts influence your emotions and behaviours. By addressing unhelpful thinking patterns and making small, actionable changes, we can create meaningful shifts in how you experience life.
  • Transactional Analysis (TA): TA helps us understand communication styles and behaviour patterns by examining the ego states (parent, child, adult). Together, we can work to break unhelpful communication habits and improve your relationships.
  • Gestalt Therapy: This approach encourages you to focus on the present moment and your immediate thoughts, feelings, and sensations, helping you understand yourself more holistically.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): ACT focuses on mindfulness, helping you observe your thoughts and emotions without judgment. By discovering your core values, you’ll be guided to live a life that aligns with what truly matters to you.

Training and Experience:

  • I’m currently completing my training at CPPD, where I am pursuing a Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counseling.
  • I’ve also gained experience working in mental health settings, including working full-time in a mental health hospital, a peer supporter volunteering at NHS and a befriending volunteer at Maytree.
  • My background includes training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, trauma-informed care, and working with depression and anxiety.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Should I Seek Therapy?

Many people, new to this type of help, believe that they need to be suffering from “mental illness” or serious “psychological problems”, or be in crisis in order for therapy and counselling to be appropriate for them. This is a common misconception; anyone can benefit from therapy when it comes to helping you deal with your personal feelings and problems, make positive changes in your life, and understand yourself better.

So what is therapy and counselling? If you’re new to this world then the first steps can sometimes be the most difficult. Therapy can be a very effective treatment for a whole range of personal problems covering areas from physical and emotional problems, different types of behavioural disorders, through to human sexuality issues and a host of wellbeing and complementary therapy techniques.

Any problem you have that is causing you concern, anxiety or distress is a valid and appropriate reason to reach out and find a therapist and talk to them about it. Far from something to be ashamed of, acknowledging your vulnerability and asking for help is a sign of maturity and strength.

If you feel that you have a desire and are committed to making changes in your life in order to overcome your current problems and achieve more long-term satisfaction, psychological wellbeing and personal fulfilment, then you are ready to seek therapy. We are here to help you work through a wide range of therapy issues that might be troubling you.

Will Information About Me Be Safe & Secure?

It is quite normal to be hesitant when it comes to sharing private and intimate information about yourself with a stranger. You may fear that you will receive judgment from your therapist, or that your therapist will share your details with others.

HQ Therapy Rooms takes your privacy and confidentiality very seriously. Our therapists are required to keep everything said in therapy sessions between you, just like your doctor is required to keep your records private.

For therapy to be effective, there must be unconditional trust built between you and your therapist, and this relies on a shared understanding of confidentiality. It applies to the outside world as well: it is standard practice for therapists not to acknowledge their clients if they run into them outside of the therapy rooms in order to help protect their client’s confidentiality. Read our full privacy policy for more information.
