William Park:
Trainee Person-Centred Psychotherapist (BACP Student Member)
Hi, I’m William Park, and I’m a trainee person-centred psychotherapist offering low-cost therapy and counselling services based at the HQ Therapy Rooms in Haggerston.
As a trainee person-centred psychotherapist, my practice focuses on creating a non-judgmental space in which you can share your experiences. The person-centred approach puts you in a position to determine your own goals from therapy, if you have them, and to choose how long you wish to remain in therapy for.
The approach is based on work that shows an open and authentic relationship with a therapist can help you find your sources of distress and your own ways to overcome them.
I believe in valuing you as a unique individual. Every experience you have had up to today has shaped who you are – and understanding those experiences better can help you to navigate your personal growth.
My journey to psychotherapy has possibly been a little unconventional. I also work as a science journalist and editor, specialising in psychology. I have a particular interest in relationship psychology and seek to share with readers the fascinating science of why we do what we do.
There is of course some crossover with psychotherapy, but the main difference is that the research I write about speaks of general trends across large groups of people, whereas our work would solely focus on you and your experiences.
Outside of psychotherapy, I volunteer with the Samaritans, a listening service that has built itself on providing a non-judgmental ear to callers. While listening services like this are very different from therapy, many of the things I have learned as a listening volunteer have informed my training as a psychotherapist – particularly listening with compassion, care, and attention to the experiences of people from all over the country and in all walks of life.
I am currently studying for a Master’s degree in Contemporary Person-Centred Psychotherapy at Metanoia Institute in West London. The training is as rigorous as it is rewarding, and I greatly enjoy the opportunity to train alongside some other fantastic therapists.
I am available from 7pm-10pm on Sunday evenings for face-to-face sessions.
