What are Tension and Trauma Release Exercises?: Tension and trauma release exercises (TRE) is a somatic body-based practice. It is based around a series of seven simple exercises that are designed to trigger your body’s natural reflex mechanism of gently shaking – or vibrating – your muscles.
Many relaxation techniques are based on, and rely on conscious control, whereas TRE relies completely on unconscious control.
Originally designed by a psychologist to help war-traumatised communities process their experiences. TRE has since grown to be used to reduce stress and release emotions and can help with a wide variety of issues such as assisting in the release of deeply held trauma, such as PTSD, and also help relieve stress, anxiety and support your overall wellbeing.
Since tension & trauma release exercises do not require you to talk about an event or your feelings, it is not hampered by the language barriers that can sometimes cause added stress in other therapies.
