Stephen Sheils:
Trainee integrative therapist (BACP student member)
Hello, my name is Stephen Sheils. I am a trainee integrative therapist working in the low-cost therapy and counselling service at HQ Therapy Rooms in Haggerston.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and am currently completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling at the CPPD counselling school.
As an integrative therapist, I believe using psychodynamic, existential and humanistic traditions, allows the therapy room to be a rich, exploratory, safe and illuminating place.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship is paramount. I endeavour to be authentic and congruent and want clients to feel they can be too, without judgment or fear; when something is funny it’s okay to laugh and when life hurts it’s crucial to express that too.
We all have struggles whether in relationships or at work. We may be repeating mistakes, feel stuck or sense our vitality ebb away. Whatever the issue, we can explore these, discover your agency, creativity, and begin to move forward.
I feel inspired and privileged to be part of the journeys people take towards a more profound understanding of themselves, their interpersonal relationships and the world they inhabit.
“Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams, who looks inside, awakes.” – C. G. Jung.
I believe deeply that people can change and grow and, in many instances, have never had the opportunity or the space to truly reflect and consider their lives, desires and what an authentic life means. I don’t take this lightly and feel honoured to have walked alongside people on their journey to a more whole existence.
“In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.” – Albert Camus.
In my professional life, I have been a songwriter, script editor, and have worked in substance misuse and mental health settings for both the NHS and the charity sector.
I am available for sessions on Saturday mornings between 7-10am in Haggerston.
I very much look forward to hearing from you.
