Raluca Ioana Negrut:
Trainee Counselling Psychologist & Integrative Psychotherapist (BPS & UKCP student member)
My name is Raluca Ioana Negrut, and I am a Doctoral trainee in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy at the Metanoia Institute. My integrative training enables me to customise therapy to your individual needs and preferences by synthesising useful perspectives from several evidence-based approaches.
I hold a graduate membership with the British Psychological Society and am a trainee member within the Division of Counselling Psychology (BPS) and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I offer 50-minute sessions online or in person at HQ Therapy Haggerston and Dalston in Hackney, London E8.
Our work:
The prospect of Starting therapy can be daunting. You may be experiencing significant distress or a vague lack of fulfilment in certain areas of your life. Perhaps you feel highly stressed at work, are repeating unhelpful patterns in your relationships, and feel bleak about the future.
Therapy offers a safe space to explore such issues, helping you better understand what you truly feel, what causes these emotions, and how you can shift your thinking and behaviours to become unstuck. The process can lead to meaningful change and restore a sense of vitality to your daily life.
A significant part of our work will be dedicated to guiding you towards greater self-awareness, a key element for personal growth, overcoming challenges, and developing resilience in the face of life’s inevitable ups and downs. I will provide unwavering support but will also challenge you when necessary. The foundation of our work will be trust, candid communication and mutual respect.
My background:
I have over five years of experience in mental health and have worked with people experiencing a broad range of difficulties, such as anxiety, ADHD, autism, bereavement, depression, eating disorders, interpersonal problems, life transitions, personality difficulties, psychosis, self-harm, work-related stress, sexual issues.
My journey towards becoming a psychologist has been a somewhat unconventional tapestry of diverse experiences. I initially trained as a classical musician and teacher and also worked within the corporate sector for several years. Navigating such distinct environments allowed me to engage with individuals from all walks of life, offering invaluable lessons in human nature and behaviour that deepened my fascination and compassion for the various struggles we all must face.
Currently, I provide low-cost therapy alongside my studies at the Metanoia Institute. In the past, I have also worked as a support worker in several psychiatric settings, offering psychological and practical support to children, adolescents, and adult service users and co-facilitating psycho-educational groups.
My approach:
Broadly speaking, I draw from three main psychotherapeutic modalities:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (Including third-wave approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) identifies and challenges unhelpful thoughts or behaviours and teaches specific skills and techniques for problem-solving, or managing emotions.
- Psychodynamic Therapy focuses on how past experiences and unconscious processes or conflicts influence the way we think, feel, or relate to others in the present.
- Humanistic/Existential Therapy emphasises authenticity, personal meaning and navigating existential givens such as freedom, responsibility, choice, limitations and death.
If you are seeking an integrative practitioner and feel that my approach might suit you, I look forward to discussing how we might work together.
