Oliver Awin Gestalt Individual & Group Psychotherapist Highbury Fields London N5Oliver Awin:

Gestalt Individual & Group Psychotherapist (UKCP)

Hello, I’m Oliver Awin. I am a qualified Gestalt Psychotherapist and registered member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I work both in person and online, offering long and short-term therapy.

Taking the first step towards therapy can feel daunting, whether you’re new to it or returning during a challenging period. Whatever brings you here, I am interested in meeting you as you are, right now. With five years of clinical experience, I have worked with individuals and groups, supporting clients through a wide variety of issues.

Therapy looks different for everyone. Each person comes with their own hopes and expectations. I offer a compassionate, confidential space to explore what emerges in our sessions and to understand how we might work together to find what you need. If you’re unsure what you need right now but know you need something, we can explore this together at your own pace.

My Approach:
Gestalt Therapy is creative, experiential and body-based, supporting you in reconnecting with your authentic self. Together, we will explore the here and now: what’s happening in the present, in your thoughts and emotions, and somatically in the body. Through expanding this awareness, you can begin to understand how old patterns and unresolved feelings might be affecting your relationships, work, and your sense of purpose.

My practice can go beyond traditional talk therapy. As a Gestalt Therapist, I can integrate movement, mindfulness, art, music, poetry, and sometimes role-playing to help you connect deeply with yourself and engage more fully in your experiences.

My approach is gentle and collaborative with compassionate challenge when needed. I bring a lightness to sessions, alongside a deep and grounded respect for your experiences and values. By paying attention to what unfolds between us relationally, you can gain valuable insight into habitual ways you relate to others.

Who I work with:
I have worked with adults and groups from many different backgrounds and experiences. Whether you are navigating anxiety, past trauma, relationship challenges, depression, or suicidal thoughts, I am here to support you in living more fully and finding a way forward. I am passionate about partnering with people on their journey, no matter how long or short their time in therapy may be.

I am committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment where you can explore cultural issues of identity – supporting you in expressing how gender, sexuality, religion, class and race shape your experiences and perspectives. Together, we can examine how these aspects of identity influence your life and how they will show up within the therapeutic process.

As a registered member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), I adhere to their ethical standards, ensuring a safe, professional and confidential practice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Should I Seek Therapy?

Many people, new to this type of help, believe that they need to be suffering from “mental illness” or serious “psychological problems”, or be in crisis in order for therapy and counselling to be appropriate for them. This is a common misconception; anyone can benefit from therapy when it comes to helping you deal with your personal feelings and problems, make positive changes in your life, and understand yourself better.

So what is therapy and counselling? If you’re new to this world then the first steps can sometimes be the most difficult. Therapy can be a very effective treatment for a whole range of personal problems covering areas from physical and emotional problems, different types of behavioural disorders, through to human sexuality issues and a host of wellbeing and complementary therapy techniques.

Any problem you have that is causing you concern, anxiety or distress is a valid and appropriate reason to reach out and find a therapist and talk to them about it. Far from something to be ashamed of, acknowledging your vulnerability and asking for help is a sign of maturity and strength.

If you feel that you have a desire and are committed to making changes in your life in order to overcome your current problems and achieve more long-term satisfaction, psychological wellbeing and personal fulfilment, then you are ready to seek therapy. We are here to help you work through a wide range of therapy issues that might be troubling you.

Will Information About Me Be Safe & Secure?

It is quite normal to be hesitant when it comes to sharing private and intimate information about yourself with a stranger. You may fear that you will receive judgment from your therapist, or that your therapist will share your details with others.

HQ Therapy Rooms takes your privacy and confidentiality very seriously. Our therapists are required to keep everything said in therapy sessions between you, just like your doctor is required to keep your records private.

For therapy to be effective, there must be unconditional trust built between you and your therapist, and this relies on a shared understanding of confidentiality. It applies to the outside world as well: it is standard practice for therapists not to acknowledge their clients if they run into them outside of the therapy rooms in order to help protect their client’s confidentiality. Read our full privacy policy for more information.
