Katrina Ives Integrative Psychotherapist London E8Katrina Ives:

Trainee Integrative Psychotherapist (UKCP student member)

My name is Katrina Ives and I am a Trainee Integrative Psychotherapist working in the low-cost counselling service at HQ Therapy Rooms at Haggerston, Hackney, London E8.

Therapy offers a unique space set aside from your day-to-day pressures to help you understand yourself better.

My role as your therapist is to be curious about you and your life, to give focus on understanding what it is like to be you and look at reality through your eyes in a supportive and collaborative environment.

I work alongside you with compassion and respect to explore how you make sense of the experiences you struggle with, and work together with you to build an honest and trusting relationship where we can explore difficult feelings and make sense of confusion.

I am interested in helping you develop a deeper awareness and understanding of yourself, working with you to identify unfulfilling patterns and help untangle the ways you may get stuck.

I believe the more you can understand your challenges and explore how you came to be who you are, the more you can take a risk of deviating from who you have felt you needed to be and find a different way forward.

I’m motivated for my clients to feel both supported and equipped to navigate life’s challenges and I enjoy helping clients identify what really matters to them amidst all the noise, demands and stress that surrounds them.

I work in a relational way and I’m interested in how you relate to yourself, the people in your life and in the wider world. I believe the therapeutic relationship acts as a microcosm of your outside world which can offer insight and understanding of your relational needs and be used as a vehicle to learn and grow from.

As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I blend a number of established psychotherapeutic theories into a framework which I draw from to respond to your unique individual needs and preferences.

My priority is to create a contained therapeutic space that feels safe enough for you to bring all of yourself, working at a pace that works best for you.

I have worked with a diverse range of clients and together we can work towards your goals, whether that’s to address anxiety, stress, depression, intrusive thoughts, self-worth, traumatic experiences or events, loss, relationships, exploring neurodiversity or any other concerns you might bring into the therapeutic space.

I’m a United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) registered Trainee Integrative Psychotherapist and I’m working to gain a master’s degree in Integrative Psychotherapy at the Metanoia Institute where I continue my professional development through training and clinical supervision.

I am available to work in person and I look forward to meeting you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Should I Seek Therapy?

Many people, new to this type of help, believe that they need to be suffering from “mental illness” or serious “psychological problems”, or be in crisis in order for therapy and counselling to be appropriate for them. This is a common misconception; anyone can benefit from therapy when it comes to helping you deal with your personal feelings and problems, make positive changes in your life, and understand yourself better.

So what is therapy and counselling? If you’re new to this world then the first steps can sometimes be the most difficult. Therapy can be a very effective treatment for a whole range of personal problems covering areas from physical and emotional problems, different types of behavioural disorders, through to human sexuality issues and a host of wellbeing and complementary therapy techniques.

Any problem you have that is causing you concern, anxiety or distress is a valid and appropriate reason to reach out and find a therapist and talk to them about it. Far from something to be ashamed of, acknowledging your vulnerability and asking for help is a sign of maturity and strength.

If you feel that you have a desire and are committed to making changes in your life in order to overcome your current problems and achieve more long-term satisfaction, psychological wellbeing and personal fulfilment, then you are ready to seek therapy. We are here to help you work through a wide range of therapy issues that might be troubling you.

Will Information About Me Be Safe & Secure?

It is quite normal to be hesitant when it comes to sharing private and intimate information about yourself with a stranger. You may fear that you will receive judgment from your therapist, or that your therapist will share your details with others.

HQ Therapy Rooms takes your privacy and confidentiality very seriously. Our therapists are required to keep everything said in therapy sessions between you, just like your doctor is required to keep your records private.

For therapy to be effective, there must be unconditional trust built between you and your therapist, and this relies on a shared understanding of confidentiality. It applies to the outside world as well: it is standard practice for therapists not to acknowledge their clients if they run into them outside of the therapy rooms in order to help protect their client’s confidentiality. Read our full privacy policy for more information.
