Katie Patel:
Trainee Existential Psychotherapist (BACP student member)
My name is Katie Patel, and I am an existential psychotherapist in training working in the low-cost therapy service at HQ Therapy Rooms in Haggerston, London E8.
Seeking therapy can be a hard thing to do, but it can also be rewarding. When we struggle to cope, having someone available to listen and talk with us can make a world of difference to our mood, mind, and overall well-being.
You might know exactly why you want to come to therapy or you may just have a vague sense of feeling isolated, anxious, confused and like life doesn’t hold much meaning anymore.
Whatever it is that you are dealing with, we can look at it together and redefine what it means to be you. Choosing therapy is a wonderful way to choose yourself.
Therapy is mostly about understanding, change and empathy. Having a person to talk with about what is causing you distress, worry, and concern can open up avenues and possibilities for change.
With deeper understanding comes fresh perspectives, allowing for more control and confidence to create the life you want to live.
I work from a relational perspective, and I aim to create a space where you can share whatever needs to come up that week, and this is always at a pace that’s comfortable for you.
Approach:
Predominately I work from an existential perspective which means that I am interested in what it means to be you, living your life.
I weave together other types of therapy modalities, humanistic principles and psychodynamic work as well. I like to ensure I have a good range of tools available to provide the best care that I can while we work together.
Ultimately, we are two people having a conversation and I believe this works best in a caring and collaborative atmosphere.
Background:
I study at Regent’s School of Psychotherapy and Counselling, on their MA course and I have a background in Clinical and Health Psychology (BSc & MSc from Newcastle University).
I have experience with a range of issues and have regularly witnessed the change that occurs when people participate in therapy.
I have worked in bereavement services and general mental health cafes that deal with a wide range of issues (anxiety, depression, meaninglessness, fear, motivation etc.).
I am available to see clients in person or online and I look forward to meeting you and working together.
