Jo Hawkes Integrative Psychotherapist London E8Jo Hawkes:

Trainee Integrative Psychotherapist (UKCP Student Member)

Hello, my name is Jo Hawkes. Thank you for visiting my page.

I am a trainee Integrative Relational Therapist working in the low-cost therapy and counselling service at HQ Therapy Rooms in Haggerston, Hackney, London E8.

We each experience difficulties in our lives, and it can feel scary, confusing, lonely and difficult to reach for support.

I am glad you are here.

I am here to offer my presence, experience and consistent weekly space to you so you can come to explore whatever is causing you distress.

I am here to sit with you alongside this, so you can understand what it means to you and so you do not have to struggle alone.

Therapy offers a safe space to process what you are experiencing, so you can move in the direction you want to in your life, and reach your full potential.

About me as a therapist:
I am studying for an Advanced Diploma and MSc in Psychotherapy at The Metanoia Institute. I am currently in my third year of training. I am also a trainee member of The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and I work within their ethical framework.

A relational therapist means I am interested in who you are as a person, and how you think and feel about things. I give you space to reflect on your relationship with yourself, to people in your life and the wider world around you.

Integrative means I work with a range of Psychotherapeutic theories that align with my values, so I can be present in the work I do. I draw on my therapeutic framework, so I can be present with you, and so I can also offer the support of these theories in the work we do together.

I do this so we can find meanings that fit your experience, and give you a deeper awareness, an opportunity to heal, and to make meaningful change.

I work with adults. Primarily, in person, but I also offer the option of some online work. I am also experienced in working in the LGBTQ+ community and with marginalised communities both as a therapist and in the charity sector.

Issues I specialise in: Developmental Trauma, Gender Identity and Sexuality, Relationship Issues, Family and Relational Problems, Effects of Physical, Emotional or Sexual Abuse, Neurodiversity, Personality Disorders, Unexpected Life Changes, Anxiety or Stress, Bereavement, Depression or low mood, Habitual Worrying, Low Self-Esteem, Addiction.

Therapeutic Approaches I use include Integrative, Anti-Oppressive, Trauma Informed, Attachment, Existential, Psychodynamic, Gestalt and Mindfulness.

Quotes:
“When I am numb, how can I make myself connected? I can’t. But I can try to create an environment that is welcoming for connection if it should turn up.” - Kae Tempest, On Connection

“Pain in this life is not avoidable, but the pain we create avoiding pain is avoidable.”R.D. Laing

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Should I Seek Therapy?

Many people, new to this type of help, believe that they need to be suffering from “mental illness” or serious “psychological problems”, or be in crisis in order for therapy and counselling to be appropriate for them. This is a common misconception; anyone can benefit from therapy when it comes to helping you deal with your personal feelings and problems, make positive changes in your life, and understand yourself better.

So what is therapy and counselling? If you’re new to this world then the first steps can sometimes be the most difficult. Therapy can be a very effective treatment for a whole range of personal problems covering areas from physical and emotional problems, different types of behavioural disorders, through to human sexuality issues and a host of wellbeing and complementary therapy techniques.

Any problem you have that is causing you concern, anxiety or distress is a valid and appropriate reason to reach out and find a therapist and talk to them about it. Far from something to be ashamed of, acknowledging your vulnerability and asking for help is a sign of maturity and strength.

If you feel that you have a desire and are committed to making changes in your life in order to overcome your current problems and achieve more long-term satisfaction, psychological wellbeing and personal fulfilment, then you are ready to seek therapy. We are here to help you work through a wide range of therapy issues that might be troubling you.

Will Information About Me Be Safe & Secure?

It is quite normal to be hesitant when it comes to sharing private and intimate information about yourself with a stranger. You may fear that you will receive judgment from your therapist, or that your therapist will share your details with others.

HQ Therapy Rooms takes your privacy and confidentiality very seriously. Our therapists are required to keep everything said in therapy sessions between you, just like your doctor is required to keep your records private.

For therapy to be effective, there must be unconditional trust built between you and your therapist, and this relies on a shared understanding of confidentiality. It applies to the outside world as well: it is standard practice for therapists not to acknowledge their clients if they run into them outside of the therapy rooms in order to help protect their client’s confidentiality. Read our full privacy policy for more information.

It feels good to be listened to and to know that someone cares about you and wants to help. It is important that you find a therapist with whom you feel comfortable and can build a trusting relationship to help you make positive changes in your life.
