James Jacob:
Trainee Humanistic Integrative Counsellor (BACP & BAATN student member)
Hi, my name is James Jacob. I’m a trainee therapist working in the low-cost therapy and counselling service at HQ Therapy Rooms in Haggerston and Dalston, Hackney, London E8.
I am currently working towards an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling at CPPD Counselling School.
I am also an insured student member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the Black, African and Asian Therapy Network (BAATN).
My background
Working in the music industry for over 12 years has given me the opportunity to experience the thrilling highs of creative and commercial success, as well as the often unspoken lows and feelings of directionlessness that can come with it.
From my unique position – based on first-hand experience, and through providing guidance to my peers – I have been working at charities British Association For Performing Arts Medicine (BAPAM) and Help Musicians to support those dealing with pressures associated with the creative industries.
My approach
I have experience working with individuals of many gender identities and sexualities, suffering from a range of issues including anxiety, depression, stress, relationship problems, loneliness, low self-esteem, trauma, addiction, bereavement, grief, and loss.
I am calm, warm, and aim to offer a space where you will feel supported, safe, accepted and heard. I appreciate that it can feel overwhelming to start counselling or continue your self-growth journey, but know that I will work in a non-judgmental way to help you to understand yourself better.
Together, we will work to identify patterns in your life that may be unhelpful, processing difficult emotions you may be experiencing in order to gradually make the changes you desire to move forward positively.
I believe that every client is unique. I work integratively, creatively drawing from various approaches to tailor the therapy to individual needs.
I have completed training in modalities such as Person-centred Therapy, Transactional Analysis (TA), Gestalt, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
