Gia Denis:
Trainee Existential Psychotherapist (BACP individual member & UKCP trainee member)
Hello, I’m Gia Denis. I’m an Existential Psychotherapist based in Hackney. I have a Master’s in Existential Psychotherapy and I’m working towards full UKCP accreditation by next year.
Therapeutic Ethos:
The essence of my role as a therapist is to assist you to listen out for what it is you may already know about yourself. I hold strongly the belief that we carry an immense amount of self-knowledge and understanding, but sometimes we just need a little assistance to unearth and reconcile with it.
By practising in a deeply relational and open manner, I seek to work with you collaboratively and at your own pace.
Throughout the process of examining the sources of your troubles or distress together, I aim to guide you in discovering new perspectives, developing greater resilience, and cultivating a renewed understanding of what it means and feels like to be you.
I see therapy as a process where we learn ways in which we develop new ways to say “yes” to ourselves in a world that tends to make that difficult.
Experience:
I have 5 years of various clinical experience from time spent in individual practice and facilitation of group psychotherapy. The below themes are some examples of those I have treated and worked with in both therapeutic contexts:
Addiction (12-step and holistic models), domestic abuse, honour-based violence, bereavement, familial estrangement, trauma, chronic illness, anxiety, sexuality, codependency, relationship difficulties, and work stress.
The above experience has imbued me with a robust understanding of how a person’s way of being is impacted by the undulating landscape of this thing that we call life. However the above does not encompass the scope of my experience and I am open to working with a variety of presenting issues.
The beauty of therapy is that no experience is the same and so it is incumbent on me as a psychotherapist to work with a client based on their unique needs and understanding of their world.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have a sense that I could be of help to you.
