Felicity Brook:
Trainee Person-Centred Psychotherapist (UKCP Student Member)
My name is Felicity Brook and I’m a trainee person-centred psychotherapist working at the low-cost therapy and counselling service at HQ Therapy Rooms in Haggerston, Hackney, London E8.
Starting therapy can be daunting. Whether it has been something you have been contemplating for a while, or a recent decision, taking the first step can feel like a huge leap.
My own personal therapy has been invaluable in shaping my understanding of the unique relationship between therapist and client. I have been immensely lucky to have a therapist who has shown me deep and enduring empathy and what it means to be truly listened to without judgment.
As a person-centred psychotherapist, I believe you are the expert of your experience. It is hoped that if the therapy room is an accepting space, you will be able to explore whatever is causing you distress in your life.
I will do my best to meet you with a personal openness and a commitment to understanding your experiences with empathy.
The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of the person-centred approach. I value my client’s autonomy and individuality; we will build that relationship together. Some clients are looking for just a few sessions; others hope to work with a therapist long-term. It is entirely your decision.
Before retraining as a psychotherapist, I spent 9 years as an English teacher in Hong Kong. I certainly learned as much from my teenage students as they did from me. In my current professional role, I provide support and advocacy for young people who have experienced domestic abuse or gender-based violence.
In both these roles I developed a commitment to trauma-informed practice, which I continue to hold in all my therapeutic work.
I’m currently studying Person-centred Psychotherapy at the Metanoia Institute. As a student member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), I adhere to their ethical guidelines and stand by their purpose, which is to facilitate personal transformation through unlocking potential.
I am available on Sunday evenings from 7pm-10pm and work with clients face-to-face. I look forward to meeting you and working together.
