Eleanor Ord:
Advanced Trainee integrative psychotherapist (UKCP student member)
My name is Eleanor Ord, I am an Advanced Trainee integrative psychotherapist working in the reduced-rate therapy and counselling service at HQ Therapy Rooms in Haggerston, Hackney, London E8.
Starting therapy can be a daunting process, but I believe everyone can benefit from a supportive, confidential space in which to understand their experiences and start making changes.
My practice provides that space, and working integratively means I draw on a variety of theoretical models — including intersubjective, psychodynamic, Gestalt, and trauma-informed approaches — to tailor our work together to your needs.
By exploring both past experiences and our shared experiences in the therapy room, I help my clients gain an understanding of their personal struggles.
Therapy is an opportunity to reflect in an intentional and held way, which otherwise can be very difficult to do in the commotion and uncertainty of daily life.
I believe that things fall out of our pockets when we talk to one another, and our work may take us in unexpected directions.
Pacing is important, and while I prefer long-term work, I check in regularly with my clients throughout.
I am interested in how differences around identity shape the way we experience the world and are treated by our fellow humans, and by the impacts of intergenerational trauma. I hold an awareness of the ways privilege and marginalization can show up in our work, whether those forces are based on class, race, gender, sexuality, or ability.
I bring a holistic approach to talking therapy, and I may incorporate mindfulness, the body and breath work in our sessions, if that is interesting to you, too.
My training in Integrative Psychotherapy has been on the MSc programme at the Metanoia Institute in Ealing, where I will soon qualify, and at the Minster Centre in Queen’s Park. I am a trainee member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), and I abide by their code of ethics.
I have a background in arts journalism and writing, and I have volunteered as a mentee for teenage girls. I also have experience working with an NHS outpatient mental health team and have provided low-cost or free counselling to the local community in north London for several years.
