Bereavement, Grief and Loss is something that we will experience at some point during our lifetime, bereavement and grief are a natural feeling when you experience the loss of someone (or something) and many individuals and families are able to work through their grief, either together, or alone.
Grief is the normal process of reacting to the loss and bereavement is usually the period after a loss during which grief is experienced and the natural process of mourning starts to take place. For some people, the experience of grief and loss during the bereavement may eventually lead to some sort of personal growth, even though the journey taken might prove to be a difficult one.
However, there may be certain occasions when the pain of loss is overwhelming, or start to interfere with your life in ways that don’t feel right, making it difficult to sleep, eat, or even think straight. At those times, therapy and counselling can help.
Grief can bring up unexpected emotions like anger, guilt, regret or shame, and sometimes sharing your feelings with other mourners can be healing in itself. Grief and bereavement therapy can occur in individual counselling, or in couples, families and group therapy.
