Anna Humphries Psychodynamic Counsellor and PsychotherapistAnna Humphries

Psychodynamic Psychotherapist & Clinical Supervisor (MBACP accred)

My name is Anna Humphries I am a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor, experienced at working with adults in the NHS and Higher Education. I work in Private Practice at HQ Therapy Rooms, Hackney.

How I work:
The therapeutic relationship is central to my work. Working psychodynamically means I am particularly interested in understanding what goes on at a deeper level, both consciously and unconsciously, and how our early experiences and relationships affect how we feel about ourselves and others throughout our lives.

I provide a space which is safe and contained and in which we can think together, about you, your understanding of yourself and your relationships with others.

Issues and symptoms which you may be concerned about: anxiety, depression, self-confidence, relationships, family, pregnancy, infertility, sexuality, gender and identity, work and education, bereavement and loss, trauma, abuse, obsessive compulsive behaviour, eating disorders, self-harm, personality disorder, getting older or just feeling lost and unsure of where you are headed in life; perhaps you just want to understand yourself better.

Initially we would meet for a therapeutic consultation in which I would want to find out about you, what is bringing you to seek help, and what you hope for from therapy. If we decide to continue, sessions would be weekly. If you would like to arrange a consultation or find out more, please call or email me to arrange a short initial phone conversation.

Experience and qualifications:
I have an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Diploma in Psychodynamic Supervision. As well as working in Private Practice I also work as a Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor at Birkbeck University. Prior to this, I worked as a Counsellor at UCL and for several years as a Psychotherapist within City and Hackney Specialist Psychotherapy Service, NHS East London Foundation Trust.

I have experience of working with both young and older adults, as well as with people from a wide variety of ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds. I attend regular supervision and CPD.

I am an accredited member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and therefore am committed to working within their ethical framework. I am experienced at working both short-term and focused or open-ended.

My Fees:
My standard psychotherapy fee is £80 for a 50-minute session. I do have some flexibility depending on your financial situation. I only offer sessions in person

My standard fee for individual supervision is £80 in person and £70 online. Group supervision fees can be discussed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Should I Seek Therapy?

Many people, new to this type of help, believe that they need to be suffering from “mental illness” or serious “psychological problems”, or be in crisis in order for therapy and counselling to be appropriate for them. This is a common misconception; anyone can benefit from therapy when it comes to helping you deal with your personal feelings and problems, make positive changes in your life, and understand yourself better.

So what is therapy and counselling? If you’re new to this world then the first steps can sometimes be the most difficult. Therapy can be a very effective treatment for a whole range of personal problems covering areas from physical and emotional problems, different types of behavioural disorders, through to human sexuality issues and a host of wellbeing and complementary therapy techniques.

Any problem you have that is causing you concern, anxiety or distress is a valid and appropriate reason to reach out and find a therapist and talk to them about it. Far from something to be ashamed of, acknowledging your vulnerability and asking for help is a sign of maturity and strength.

If you feel that you have a desire and are committed to making changes in your life in order to overcome your current problems and achieve more long-term satisfaction, psychological wellbeing and personal fulfilment, then you are ready to seek therapy. We are here to help you work through a wide range of therapy issues that might be troubling you.

Will Information About Me Be Safe & Secure?

It is quite normal to be hesitant when it comes to sharing private and intimate information about yourself with a stranger. You may fear that you will receive judgment from your therapist, or that your therapist will share your details with others.

HQ Therapy Rooms takes your privacy and confidentiality very seriously. Our therapists are required to keep everything said in therapy sessions between you, just like your doctor is required to keep your records private.

For therapy to be effective, there must be unconditional trust built between you and your therapist, and this relies on a shared understanding of confidentiality. It applies to the outside world as well: it is standard practice for therapists not to acknowledge their clients if they run into them outside of the therapy rooms in order to help protect their client’s confidentiality. Read our full privacy policy for more information.
