Anna Compton:
Trainee Counsellor (BACP student member)
Hello, my name is Anna Compton. I am a trainee counsellor working in the low-cost therapy and counselling service at HQ Therapy Rooms in Haggerston and Dalston, Hackney, London E8.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and currently completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling at the CPPD counselling school.
We all have mental health, it involves our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. How we think, feel, and act is dependent upon our mental well-being.
It also affects how we cope with stress, relate to others, and make choices. Poor mental health can cause frequent stress and affect someone’s ability to function effectively in daily life. Counselling can help improve mental health.
I have a strong desire to help people who have emotional, psychological, or social needs and to support them in creating a positive change in their lives.
I believe in the resilience of people and feel that most people just need a helping hand, from a person they can trust, to start exploring, healing, and living a happier and more rewarding life.
I also believe that the therapeutic relationship is the most important part of successful therapeutic work. My aim is to provide a safe and confidential space to talk. I support clients by listening, questioning, and encouraging them without judgement. I am committed to seeing things from the client’s point of view with acceptance and respect.
I am mindful of how diversity and difference have an impact on clients’ lives and also on the therapeutic relationship. Equality, treating every person fairly and equally, is a vital part of my practice.
I am a calm, empathetic and compassionate person. I help clients explore their thoughts, feelings and behaviours and look at any adjustments they would like to make in their lives in dealing with their physical and emotional problems. Sometimes progress can take time but with patience, positivity and a focus on the end goal success is always possible.
As a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor, I believe in the whole person and recognise the meaningful connections between all the approaches to counselling. Different clients have different needs and this needs to be reflected in the approaches used. I aim to promote healing and enable wholeness. I help clients with self-exploration to identify the factors in their life which are causing current concerns.
I have a BSc Degree in Psychology and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education. In my many years teaching in primary schools I have had a lot of experience building rapport and making meaningful connections with children and their parents.
I am practised in giving people my full attention and valuing them as worthy individuals. Through working with children, I know that without the ability to regulate emotions and behaviours everything else becomes more challenging. Building up toolboxes, and strategies, to get to a place of calm can be life-changing.
I am currently seeing clients face-to-face. I look forward to meeting you and beginning our work together.
