Amelia Bottomley:
Trainee Psychotherapist (NCPS student member)
Hello, my name is Amelia Bottomley, I am a trainee therapist working in the low-cost therapy and counselling service at HQ Therapy Rooms in Hackney, London E8.
I am currently nearing the end of my training at Chrysalis, which is a non-profit academy for counsellors and psychotherapists. I am working towards my Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice.
I’m a student member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and work within their ethical framework.
Counselling is a totally unique and personal process. We can discuss things in a way that is different than with close friends or family. Our discussions will be absolutely free from judgement and will be explorative and curious.
My training has used a pluralistic model, meaning I have learnt techniques from three of the main theories of counselling – psychodynamic, person-centred and CBT. This means that I will choose which approach will be most helpful to you in the moment – ensuring that the whole process is guided by your thoughts and emotions, not a dusty old textbook.
The relationship between counsellor and client is a collaborative journey that will be an opportunity to explore your past, your current thoughts and feelings, and your hopes and fears for the future. I provide the space for this exploration through empathy, understanding and curiosity.
Hopefully, throughout our sessions, we can learn together, consider alternatives to negative thoughts and emotions and gain some clarity that will improve your quality of life. This can take time, but with patience and a commitment to healing, we can start to live a happier life.
I have worked across 5 different countries, in many different professions including humanitarian work. I have always had a strong desire to support others and thoroughly enjoy meeting people from all walks of life. I am committed to equality and work within a feminist and antiracist framework.
I’m available to see clients for both short and long-term work, in person, and look forward to meeting you and beginning our work together.
