Kevin Bachan-Singh Psychodynamic Therapist Hackney London E8Kevin Bachan-Singh:

Psychodynamic Therapist (BPC)

Hello, my name is Kevin Bachan-Singh and I am a fully qualified Psychodynamic therapist who is registered with the BPC, offering face-to-face and online therapy. Navigating today’s social landscape can feel daunting, amidst the unpredictability of everyday life that can challenge your emotional resolve.

Discussing personal issues with friends and family can at times leave you feeling judged, criticised or even influenced to make decisions you are unsure of. And if you have never undergone therapy before, thinking about speaking to someone you don’t know about things that are personal to you, causing you emotional distress, can feel scary and overwhelming.

We all need support at one time or another, and I hope that you can take that step forward with me to feel the way you would like to feel. My areas of experience include: Anxiety, bereavement, trauma, lack of self-esteem, cultural issues of identity and belonging, relationships and substance abuse and addiction.

MY ETHOS:
Working in accordance with the BPC code of ethics and the ethical guidelines is central to my therapeutic practice, ensuring that the welfare of the client is maintained and any information provided by the client is confidentially preserved.

I seek to create an environment which feels safe, and clients are able to express their emotions and vulnerabilities without fear of feeling that this is not the way you are supposed to behave.

The construction of a trusting therapeutic relationship features as a core component of my approach, which will develop over time, and is underpinned by the use of the psychodynamic model.

HOW IT WORKS:
The sessions are unstructured, and you bring whatever topics or issues you want to bring to the session on the day. The Psychodynamic model recognises past conflicts as a determining factor in shaping behaviour.

As these conflicts emerge a deeper level of reflection and understanding of self, your interactions with others and the dynamics of your relationships begin to take shape, provide meaning contribute toward your journey of alleviating stressors that cause you psychic discomfort.

ABOUT ME:
For the last eighteen years, I worked with some of the most disaffected and vulnerable students and families from a diverse range of cultures in a Pupil Referral Unit within the borough of Enfield. I spent four years in the role of a Behaviour Learning Mentor and fourteen years as an assistant headteacher for behaviour.

Working among some of the most challenging students and families in the Borough, and being exposed to, and having to play a role in addressing some of the horror stories presented at work, including gang affiliation, county lines, various forms of exploitation, various forms of abuse, family disfunction and the murder of two of my former students, made me start to feel like we were putting little plasters on significant wounds.

Although I had a degree in criminology and psychology and had received a significant degree of training, including training with the behaviour specialist Paul Dix, it felt like the work that would be most viable in establishing a better social playing field for Children and Adults resided in the realm of therapeutic practice. My experiences also highlighted the disparity in treatment for a wide range of cultures, who are often subject to discrimination, racism and prejudice, not only when interacting with the general public but also at the hands of institutions.

It is the sum of all of these experiences that encouraged me to become a Psychodynamic therapist, seeking to provide a non-judgmental, non-discriminative space for people of all cultures.

YOUR SESSION:
I work face-to-face, online or via telephone. All sessions are 50 minutes long and my fee is £60. The first session is a 30-minute assessment charged at £25 which seeks to gather background information, why you have come to therapy and establish the first steps of building a rapport.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Should I Seek Therapy?

Many people, new to this type of help, believe that they need to be suffering from “mental illness” or serious “psychological problems”, or be in crisis in order for therapy and counselling to be appropriate for them. This is a common misconception; anyone can benefit from therapy when it comes to helping you deal with your personal feelings and problems, make positive changes in your life, and understand yourself better.

So what is therapy and counselling? If you’re new to this world then the first steps can sometimes be the most difficult. Therapy can be a very effective treatment for a whole range of personal problems covering areas from physical and emotional problems, different types of behavioural disorders, through to human sexuality issues and a host of wellbeing and complementary therapy techniques.

Any problem you have that is causing you concern, anxiety or distress is a valid and appropriate reason to reach out and find a therapist and talk to them about it. Far from something to be ashamed of, acknowledging your vulnerability and asking for help is a sign of maturity and strength.

If you feel that you have a desire and are committed to making changes in your life in order to overcome your current problems and achieve more long-term satisfaction, psychological wellbeing and personal fulfilment, then you are ready to seek therapy. We are here to help you work through a wide range of therapy issues that might be troubling you.

Will Information About Me Be Safe & Secure?

It is quite normal to be hesitant when it comes to sharing private and intimate information about yourself with a stranger. You may fear that you will receive judgment from your therapist, or that your therapist will share your details with others.

HQ Therapy Rooms takes your privacy and confidentiality very seriously. Our therapists are required to keep everything said in therapy sessions between you, just like your doctor is required to keep your records private.

For therapy to be effective, there must be unconditional trust built between you and your therapist, and this relies on a shared understanding of confidentiality. It applies to the outside world as well: it is standard practice for therapists not to acknowledge their clients if they run into them outside of the therapy rooms in order to help protect their client’s confidentiality. Read our full privacy policy for more information.
