David Dixon psychotherapist and counsellorDavid Dixon

Psychotherapist & Counsellor (UKCP)

My name is David Dixon and I am an experienced, qualified and registered psychotherapist and counsellor working full time in private practice in London Bridge and at HQ Therapy Rooms in Hackney, E8, within easy reach of Liverpool Street, the City and Central London, Islington and Shoreditch

Whatever your reason for making contact, psychotherapy can help you understand what you are going through and support you as you face difficult thoughts and feelings. Everyone can find life overwhelming at times. As a professional psychotherapist, I provide a safe and confidential space in which to talk about and explore what is troubling you so that together we can start to make sense of your feelings and concerns.

Psychotherapy is a unique experience for everyone but starts with sitting together in a private space and talking about whatever feelings and thoughts you wish to bring. I will try to help you look at these from the perspective of the relationships you have in your everyday life, sometimes those from the past and, at times, the relationship we have with each other when we meet.

For example, you might wish to talk about a feeling of depression or an inability to engage with the world around you. A psychotherapeutic approach might be to explore the shape of this depression and what purpose it may serve for you and those around you. Over time, a better understanding of the underlying motives and causes of your problem can lead to a greater sense of integration and control in your life and, importantly, to more authentic relationships with others.

I have helped people in the past who have experienced difficulties such as stress, anxiety, depression and feelings of hopelessness, bereavement, redundancy and career counselling, addiction, relationship and sexual problems, family and work problems and concerns and difficulties with anger and I have many years of experience of dealing with workplace issues.

How I Work With Clients:
If you would like to know more please call or send me an email below so we can talk briefly about what you would like and, if appropriate, arrange an initial meeting. This is without commitment but is simply to give a sense of how we might work together and importantly, for you to see if I am the right person for you. Everything will be treated with the utmost confidence.

This initial meeting would be for 50 minutes.

If you decide you would like to continue then we would meet each week for 50 minutes on a mutually agreed day and time. My fee can be discussed when we meet.

I am currently seeing clients face to face, online (Zoom, Skype, etc) and by phone.

My Consulting Rooms Are:
London Bridge – on Union Street off Borough High Street, SE1, 5 minutes walk from London Bridge or Borough stations.
HackneyHQ Therapy Rooms on Kingsland Road, Dalston, 5 minutes walk from Haggerston Overground.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Should I Seek Therapy?

Many people, new to this type of help, believe that they need to be suffering from “mental illness” or serious “psychological problems”, or be in crisis in order for therapy and counselling to be appropriate for them. This is a common misconception; anyone can benefit from therapy when it comes to helping you deal with your personal feelings and problems, make positive changes in your life, and understand yourself better.

So what is therapy and counselling? If you’re new to this world then the first steps can sometimes be the most difficult. Therapy can be a very effective treatment for a whole range of personal problems covering areas from physical and emotional problems, different types of behavioural disorders, through to human sexuality issues and a host of wellbeing and complementary therapy techniques.

Any problem you have that is causing you concern, anxiety or distress is a valid and appropriate reason to reach out and find a therapist and talk to them about it. Far from something to be ashamed of, acknowledging your vulnerability and asking for help is a sign of maturity and strength.

If you feel that you have a desire and are committed to making changes in your life in order to overcome your current problems and achieve more long-term satisfaction, psychological wellbeing and personal fulfilment, then you are ready to seek therapy. We are here to help you work through a wide range of therapy issues that might be troubling you.

Will Information About Me Be Safe & Secure?

It is quite normal to be hesitant when it comes to sharing private and intimate information about yourself with a stranger. You may fear that you will receive judgment from your therapist, or that your therapist will share your details with others.

HQ Therapy Rooms takes your privacy and confidentiality very seriously. Our therapists are required to keep everything said in therapy sessions between you, just like your doctor is required to keep your records private.

For therapy to be effective, there must be unconditional trust built between you and your therapist, and this relies on a shared understanding of confidentiality. It applies to the outside world as well: it is standard practice for therapists not to acknowledge their clients if they run into them outside of the therapy rooms in order to help protect their client’s confidentiality. Read our full privacy policy for more information.
