Keren Lewis:
Art Psychotherapist (HCPC)
I’m Keren and I’m passionate about creative making within Psychotherapy. I see it as an important part of non-verbal processing which, alongside the therapeutic relationship, can provide a valuable tool for developing self-knowledge.
I provide confidential and creative therapeutic spaces giving freedom for children and adults to experiment with a wide variety of art and craft-based materials, allowing sensitive and challenging issues to emerge, be reflected upon and held.
My approach is client-led and psychodynamic, incorporating various psychological perspectives to meet individual needs. I am an HCPC-registered Art Psychotherapist and a member of the British Association of Art Psychotherapists (BAAT).
I have worked and work in charities, education establishments and NHS provision with children and adults of varying ages, nationalities, heritage, sexual orientation, learning disabilities and religious backgrounds.
My therapeutic work with children has covered issues of peer relationship difficulties, learning disabilities, domestic and sexual trauma and bereavement.
With adults, my therapeutic work has included areas such as depression, isolation, homelessness, substance use disorders, domestic and sexual trauma, bereavement, parenting, learning disabilities, sexual identity, the impact of historical trauma and complex family relationships.
No pre-existing artistic skills or creative flair are needed to choose Art Psychotherapy; instead, an openness to what can emerge through the visual.
