Nathan Tregarvan:
Psychodynamic Psychotherapist Trainee (BPC Accredited Training)
My name is Nathan Tregarvan and I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist in training with the British Psychotherapy Foundation (BPF). The BPF is an accredited member of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC), and I adhere to their code of ethics.
I offer weekly, low-cost therapy to adults in Haggerston.
I provide a supportive and confidential space where you can talk openly about yourself and your life without fear of judgment, allowing you to go at your own pace.
If you’re feeling unhappy, overwhelmed, or stuck, psychotherapy can help.
You may have been struggling with confusion or conflict for a long time, or perhaps you’re in a situation causing you distress.
Relationship difficulties, unanswered questions about who you are, or patterns of behaviour you don’t understand can feel isolating—but they don’t have to.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a talking treatment that explores the underlying causes of your difficulties to bring about meaningful and lasting change. It works with your conscious and unconscious thoughts, feelings, fears, and wishes.
As a psychotherapist, I aim to help by providing a safe place where you can discuss your problems openly and in-depth. I encourage you to express what you genuinely think and feel, even when it’s difficult, and work with you to identify emotions or thoughts that may be unconscious or out of reach. Together, we can explore the underlying causes of your distress and bring clarity to your experiences.
The process often involves reflecting on your past, including the environment in which you grew up and your childhood or adolescent experiences. It also involves thinking about how your adult life has unfolded and how these experiences shape your relationships. Sometimes, your relationship with your therapist can provide insights into how you connect with others in your life.
My approach is informed by comprehensive training and practical experience. I have completed a one-year Foundation Course in Psychodynamic Counselling at the Westminster Pastoral Foundation and a one-year Foundation in Psychoanalysis at the Institute of Psychoanalysis. Additionally, I have trained and volunteered with Cruse Bereavement Support, supporting clients with grief and loss.
Whether you’re seeking support with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or navigating life’s transitions, I aim to tailor our work to meet your unique needs. Therapy sessions are available in person in Dalston and Haggerston.
