Vicky Galanopoulou:
Trainee Psychodynamic Counsellor & Psychotherapist (BACP student member)
My name is Vicky Galanopoulou, and I am a trainee Psychodynamic Counselor and Psychotherapist offering low-cost Counselling and Psychotherapy Services to adults at HQ Therapy Rooms in Haggerston and Dalston, Hackney.
Driven by a passion for understanding human behaviour and mental health, I began my studies at the New Bulgarian University of Sofia, earning a degree in Psychology (BSc Hons in Psychology). I then continued at Birkbeck University of London, focusing on Psychoanalytic Theory (MA in Psychoanalytic Studies), and currently, I am training in Psychodynamic Counselling & Psychotherapy at Birkbeck.
I believe every individual possesses the answers within themselves, and I am here to help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself, opening the door to real and long-lasting recovery.
My approach is grounded in psychodynamic theory, exploring the complexities of the human mind and how early life experiences and unconscious processes influence current behaviour, emotions, and relationships.
I focus on understanding how your past experiences shape your current feelings and behaviours, creating a safe space for reflection that leads to meaningful personal growth and change.
I work with a wide range of difficulties, including depression, trauma, abuse, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, relationship issues, self-esteem problems, anxiety, and sexuality concerns. Through the therapeutic relationship and psychodynamic framework, I aim to support you in understanding your emotions, motives, and personal history more deeply.
My professional experience has allowed me to work with both adolescents and adults from vulnerable groups within the NHS health sector and the educational sector, who are affected by social issues and inequalities. This valuable experience has demonstrated how the environment, early relationships, and social context profoundly influence mental health and behaviour.
With keen analytical observation and deep sensitivity towards minorities and inequalities, I have traced the foundations of perceptions, behaviours, and traumas. I advocate for low-cost therapy because mental health care should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation.
I believe that therapy can make us more tolerant towards ourselves and others, and more capable of living an enjoyable life, regardless of one’s background or circumstances.
I hold a student membership with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and follow the BACP ethical framework. For those who are bilingual and prefer therapy in another language, I am native to Greek and can offer therapy in Greek.
I am currently available for in-person sessions on Saturdays between 1-4 pm. I look forward to walking this path with you and supporting your journey to recovery and self-discovery.
