Alex Cawthron:
Trainee Integrative Psychotherapist (BACP student member)
My name is Alex Cawthron, and I am a Trainee integrative psychotherapist working in the low-cost therapy and counselling service at HQ Therapy Rooms in Hackney, E8.
I am currently completing a Master’s degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Regent’s University London and I have a professional background working in education and as an advocate in the charity sector.
I am a student member of the BACP, and I practice within their ethical framework.
My approach:
I know from personal experience that life can be challenging, and it can sometimes leave us feeling overwhelmed and alone with difficult thoughts and feelings.
I have experienced the power of therapy as a space to help build strength and resilience and have benefitted from the unique opportunity it provides us with to gain more self-awareness and acceptance.
I truly believe that there is a place for therapy at any stage of our lives.
I view every person as an individual with their own, unique experience. Through talking, I want to understand what life is like for you and I accept who you are.
As an integrative therapist, I draw on different therapeutic approaches and recognise that everyone has unique needs based on a diversity of lived experiences, and I tailor every session to meet your needs.
I have worked as a professional and volunteer with people from diverse backgrounds and recognise in my work the importance of exploring and understanding this diversity and marginalisation that many of us experience.
In addition to my degree, I have done professional development training in domestic abuse, trauma, working with diversity and disabilities, and suicide prevention.
How I work:
I am a warm, empathetic and non-judgemental therapist. I understand how difficult feelings and thoughts can be, let alone how challenging it sometimes is to put them into words. I want to provide my clients with a trusting and supportive environment, where they feel wholly free to talk, and can learn more about themselves and their relationships with others.
In therapy, we can collaborate to come to understand new perspectives as to why you have made the brave decision to come to therapy, and I can support you to build up resilience and tools to help with whatever life may throw at you.
During our sessions, I aim to help you to build awareness and recognise where there might be unhelpful patterns and behaviours in your life.
This process of becoming increasingly self-aware is the first step towards meaningful and lasting positive change in how you feel about yourself and your life.
I am available to work with clients both face-to-face and online.
