Daniel Neilson:
Counsellor and Psychotherapist (BACP)
Hello, my name is Daniel Neilson. I am an integrative BACP accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with over ten years experience working across the private, public, charity and higher education sectors.
In approaching the therapeutic relationship my goal is to facilitate an environment by which emotional growth is able to take place in the therapy room, and you are free to accomplish your goals.
Having initially trained as a person-centred counsellor between 2010 and 2013 at the Centre for Personal and Professional Development (CCPD) in North London and received BACP accreditation I founded my own private practice N1 Therapy in 2013, offering short and long-term therapeutic interventions.
Latterly I have worked in the NHS for over ten years providing counselling and CBT interventions within IAPT.
I have also been employed as a student counsellor at the London School of Economics where I served as clinical lead for the counselling department. In 2019 I attained an MSc in Psychotherapy Studies from the New School of Counselling and Psychotherapy (accredited by Middlesex University).
My MSc thesis centred on the lived experience of young people’s mental health in response to social media and smartphone technology. In 2023 I started a scheme partnering with the Dusty Knuckle bakery based in Dalston, working with clients experiencing mental health issues in relation to entering into and maintaining employment.
Initially, when working together in therapy we would undertake a clinical assessment lasting from around forty-five to fifty minutes before determining therapeutic goals for our work together and contracting for the length of time we need in order to attain these goals and to set a pathway forward by which we can expect to make progress.
I aim to offer a positive, constructive and responsive setting for counselling and psychotherapy, and in doing so employ a variety of techniques and media depending on the individual needs of the client concerned.
Following the initial session that we have together my intention is to construct a care plan centred on your individual needs, and thereafter regularly conduct clinical reviews and check-ins to determine that we are following a mutually agreed plan of action which remains structured but subject to review at all times.
As a BACP-accredited psychotherapist, I abide by the organisation’s ethical framework in the work that I undertake in the field. I look forward to working with you in therapy and helping you on your journey.
