Nikolaos Tzikas:
Child & Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist (ACP)
Hello, I am Nikolaos Tzikas, a qualified Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist registered with the Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP), and currently practicing at HQ Therapy Rooms in Haggerston, Hackney, London, E8.
I work with children, adolescents, families, and young adults between the ages of 0 to 26-year-olds. I offer parent-infant/child psychotherapy, individual psychotherapy for children and young people, and parent support and consultations.
My expertise encompasses specialized assessments and both short and long-term psychoanalytic interventions.
I completed a 4-years NHS-funded Doctoral Clinical training in Child Psychotherapy at the British Psychotherapy Foundation in collaboration with the Anna Freud Centre and University College London (UCL).
During my tenure as a Child Psychotherapist in CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services in NHS), I provided specialized assessments and short- and long-term psychoanalytic psychotherapy for children of various ages grappling with severe trauma, complex difficulties, emotional and behavioural challenges, and attachment issues.
I also provided psychoanalytic consultations to diverse disciplines, educational institutions, and professional networks, providing psychoanalytic thinking in understanding children’s development and their unfolding relationships.
At the core of my psychoanalytic psychotherapy practice is a dedicated focus on children and young adults, meticulously observing their play, behaviours, and various forms of verbal and non-verbal communication to understand their underlying anxieties and unspoken worries.
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a non-directive and child/young person-led approach that emphasises the importance of the relationship in understanding the unique ways of each individual’s way of relating. It is in building and developing a trusting relationship where deep-seated and complex emotional and behavioural challenges can be understood and addressed effectively.
This increased insight empowers individuals to gain a deep insight into themselves and to regulate their emotions more effectively, fostering personal growth and enabling them to realise their potential, build resilience, and develop a stronger sense of identity and self-esteem.
In conjunction with my private practice, I also work within a specialized Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in the NHS dedicated to adolescents and their families in high-risk situations. These adolescents often grapple with moderate to severe and complex difficulties such as school disengagement, depression, anxiety, self-harm, and thoughts of suicide.
They may also exhibit outbursts of aggression as a response to emotionally demanding circumstances. My experience includes conducting meticulous risk assessments and closely collaborating with the child’s/young person’s support network and family.
I offer in-person and online (Zoom, Skype, etc.) and phone sessions. If you would like to book an appointment or ask me any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me below.
